HAIR, SKIN & NAILS

The best hair, skin and nails gummies

Nails respond. Hair mostly does not, unless you were deficient. And the biotin dose in these products can make your bloodwork read wrong.

The short answer

  • Top pick: Olly Undeniable Beauty. The best-liked formula in the category, with a biotin dose that is high but not extreme.
  • Best zero-sugar option: Nature Made Zero Sugar Hair Skin & Nails. Notably, this one is not USP Verified despite the brand.
  • Tell your doctor: high-dose biotin interferes with several common blood tests. This is not a minor footnote.

What we checked

We screened 26 hair, skin and nails gummies, compared biotin doses against the adequate intake level, checked collagen content against the doses used in research, and analyzed reviews across five retailers. Six products met our threshold. How we rank →

The honest caveat

Biotin will not grow you more hair unless you were deficient, and biotin deficiency is rare.

This is the least comfortable page on the site to write, because the category sells a promise the ingredient cannot keep for most buyers. The adequate intake of biotin for adults is about 30 micrograms a day. These products contain 2,500 to 10,000 micrograms, which is 80 to 300 times that. There is no evidence that a larger dose does more for hair in people whose biotin status is normal, and normal is the overwhelming majority of people who eat food.

What reviewers do consistently report, and what the research is more supportive of, is stronger, faster-growing nails. That is a real and frequently mentioned effect, and if that is what you want, these products have a reasonable track record.

For hair, the honest position is that supplements do not address androgenetic hair loss, which is what most hair thinning actually is. If your hair is thinning in a pattern, a dermatologist has tools that work and a gummy does not.

The safety issue that actually matters here. High-dose biotin interferes with a range of laboratory immunoassays, including thyroid function tests and troponin, the test used to diagnose a heart attack. The FDA has issued warnings about this. It can produce falsely high or falsely low results depending on the test. Tell any doctor ordering bloodwork that you take biotin, and stop taking it for several days before a scheduled blood draw if your clinician advises it.

The collagen point, briefly: research on oral collagen for skin generally uses 2.5 to 10 grams a day. A gummy containing collagen typically provides a tiny fraction of that. It is there for the label, not for the effect.

Olly

Olly Undeniable Beauty Gummies

the best-executed product in a category where execution is most of what is available.

What is in it

  • ActivesBiotin, keratin, vitamins C and E
Serving2 gummies daily, 30-day supply per 60-count
VerificationNot confirmed
FlavorRuby red grapefruit
RatingNot confirmed

What people like most

  • Nail strength and growth are the dominant themes in the reviews by a wide margin, mentioned specifically in hundreds of them, often within six to eight weeks.
  • The grapefruit flavor is the single most discussed attribute, and it is unusual enough in the category that it converts people who dislike sweet supplement flavors.
  • Vitamin C is included, which is genuinely relevant since it is required for collagen synthesis, rather than being a decorative addition.
  • Formulated without synthetic flavors or colors, and gluten free.

What people might not like

  • The biotin dose is high enough to interfere with blood tests including thyroid panels and troponin. This is the most important thing on the label and it is not on the front of it.
  • Results take months, and reviewers who expected change in weeks are the most disappointed group.
  • Price is a repeated complaint, particularly at 60 gummies for 30 days.
  • Reviewers with genetic hair thinning consistently report no effect on hair, which is what the evidence would predict.

Nature Made

Nature Made Zero Sugar Hair Skin & Nails

a sensible dose with no sugar at a good price, from the brand with the best verification record, though notably not on this product.

What is in it

  • Actives2,500 mcg biotin
ServingNot confirmed
VerificationNot USP Verified, unlike much of the Nature Made line
FlavorStrawberry
SupplyNot confirmed

What people like most

  • 2,500 mcg is the lowest biotin dose among mainstream options, which is a point in its favor rather than against it given there is no evidence more does more, and it reduces the blood-test interference risk.
  • Zero sugar, which matters for a product taken daily for months.
  • 60-day supply per bottle makes it the best value in the category by a clear margin.
  • Soft, chewy strawberry gummies that reviewers describe as genuinely pleasant.

What people might not like

  • Unlike most Nature Made products, this one does not carry the USP Verified seal, which is exactly the kind of thing a brand's halo can obscure. We flag it because we would want to know.
  • Sugar alcohols, with the usual GI consequences for some people.
  • Biotin alone, without the vitamin C and E that support collagen synthesis.
  • Fewer supporting ingredients than competitors at a similar price.

Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails with Biotin and Collagen

the drugstore default, widely liked and widely available, with a collagen claim that does less than the label implies.

What people like most

  • Consistently high ratings across retailers, with reviewers reporting stronger nails, better skin, and healthier hair.
  • Taste is well liked, and several reviewers who tried multiple brands name this as the best-tasting.
  • Available in nearly every pharmacy and grocery store in the country, often on promotion.
  • The inclusion of vitamin C alongside collagen is at least internally coherent, since vitamin C is required for collagen synthesis.

What people might not like

  • The collagen dose in a gummy is a small fraction of the 2.5 to 10 grams used in the research. Its presence on the label does more work than its presence in the product.
  • Added sugar, and a larger amount than the zero-sugar alternatives.
  • No third-party verification we could confirm, in a category where doses are high and accuracy matters.
  • The same biotin and blood-test interference issue applies.

The other format

POWDER

Collagen needs a gram-scale format

If collagen is the goal, research uses roughly 2.5 to 10 grams per day. A powder can carry that amount; a gummy usually provides milligrams and is not the same intervention.

How to choose

Lower biotin is better, not worse.

There is no evidence that 10,000 mcg outperforms 2,500 mcg, and the higher dose carries more lab-interference risk. Treat a very large number on the front of the bottle as a marketing decision.

Look for vitamin C.

It is required for collagen synthesis, which makes it one of the few supporting ingredients in this category that has a clear reason to be there.

Ignore the collagen number.

No gummy contains a meaningful collagen dose. If you want to try collagen, a powder at 2.5 to 10 grams daily is the format the research used.

Set the timeline at three months.

Hair grows roughly half an inch a month and nails more slowly. Anything you notice in three weeks is not the supplement.

Rule out the actual cause first.

Iron deficiency, thyroid dysfunction, and rapid weight loss are all common causes of hair shedding, and all are worth a blood test before a supplement. Which brings us back to the biotin problem, since biotin distorts thyroid testing.

Who should skip these

  • Anyone due for bloodwork, particularly thyroid tests or cardiac troponin, unless they have told their doctor.
  • Anyone with pattern hair loss. See a dermatologist. Effective treatments exist and this is not one of them.
  • Anyone pregnant or nursing, without clinician guidance, since several of these formulas include vitamin A.
  • Anyone already taking a multivitamin, who should add up the biotin and vitamin A across both products.
  • Anyone with acne. Some people report breakouts on high-dose biotin, and it comes up regularly in reviews.

Questions

Only if you are biotin deficient, which is uncommon. In people with normal biotin status there is no good evidence that supplementation improves hair growth. Nails are a more promising target.
