Nature Made

Nature Made was founded in 1971 in Los Angeles by pharmacist Barry Pressman and entrepreneur Henry Burdick under the company Pharmavite, built on the idea that basic nutritional supplementation could support long-term health [3](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharmavite). Otsuka Pharmaceutical, a Japanese healthcare company, acquired Pharmavite in 1989 and has owned it since [3](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharmavite).

In 2002, a Nature Made product became the first dietary supplement in the U.S. verified under the United States Pharmacopeia's Dietary Supplement Verification Program, a program that audits manufacturing facilities, confirms label-claim potency, and screens for contaminants [4](https://www.naturemade.com/pages/what-is-united-states-pharmacopeia). The brand has since built out the largest USP Verified product portfolio of any national vitamin brand, and in 2016 became the first company to achieve USP verification for a gummy supplement [5](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nature_Made).

Pharmavite has grown beyond the core Nature Made line through acquisitions, including FoodState/MegaFood in 2014 and Uqora in 2021, and has launched adjacent lines such as Equelle for menopause support and Nurish, a personalized-vitamin subscription service [3](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharmavite).

Not every Nature Made product carries USP verification. Some lines, including its hair, skin and nails gummy, are sold without the USP mark, so verification status should be checked product by product rather than assumed brand-wide.
